Hello, I’m Peter, a lifelong musician who began as a street performer and quickly transitioned to collaborating with live DJs and bands. My expertise led me to produce sound clips for films, TV, radio, games, and other digital media.

For over 12 years, I traveled the world crafting handmade didgeridoos with various makers. Through this journey, I mastered the intricate art of bore manipulation to enhance the instrument’s overall sound. With over 30 years of experience in making, playing, and teaching didgeridoo, I once dreamt of creating a revolutionary instrument. Although the necessary materials and skills were not available back then, life has a way of bringing old dreams back to the forefront.

Twenty years later, I revisited my ideas, curious about modern possibilities. I started with basic designs and engaged various social media groups for insights. It was through a Mensa group that my concept evolved, transforming from rudimentary sketches on scrap paper into a collaborative project with brilliant minds.

With the support of an extraordinary collective, including engineers, 3D plastic specialists, CAD designers, and even Formula One experts, my vision began to take shape. These generous individuals continually refined the instrument, surpassing my expectations with the first prototype. The result was astounding: an instrument capable of producing nearly all the keys, crisp vocals, overtones, and octaval ranges—a true marvel of modern engineering.

The first-generation SOTA (State of the Art) didgeridoo was born, embodying innovation and excellence. The collective remains engaged, ready to enhance future iterations, always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. As a gesture of gratitude, I performed for various members and their families, showcasing the unique sounds of the instrument they helped create.

From its inception, this instrument was designed to stand apart from any other similar items available, especially as no fiberglass was used. The distinctive tapering conical shape and wall thickness mimic the feel of dense wood, ensuring clarity of sound—our primary goal, which we exceeded.

Playing the SOTA didgeridoo rekindled my passion, offering unparalleled playability for both fast and slow styles. I avoided branding it with my name, preferring a collaborative identity. The name “SOTA” was chosen by the collective, symbolizing the state-of-the-art nature of the instrument.

Peter
